Motif Monday - The Porg

Motif Monday returns! Yay!

I'm still processing Star Wars The Last Jedi. It was an emotional rollercoaster I wasn't quite ready for.

One thing I do know is that the Porgs were flipping cute. And yeah...I also love the ewoks. If you're a Star Wars fan who hates the cute little critters of the universe then this isn't the blog you're looking for.

This week's free motif is dedicated to the little Porg dudes. It's a super quick stitch, and would be great for decorating a little one's t-shirt, or for stitching a legion of tiny little Porgs if you feel the need for a Porg army.

Porgs seems to be either brown or grey, depending on what point of reference you use. I've chosen brown for this design, but you can easily substitute for grey.

Motif Monday - I Am Groot

James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy found a place in my heart after the first viewing - by the third viewing I was pretty sure it was one of my all time favourite films. Seriously. I went to the cinema to see it three times. That's a record for me. As it turns out, the third time was the evening before my (now) husband proposed to me so that has added an extra layer of happy attachment to it.

It's now the films one year anniversary as it was released a year ago in cinemas across the world. In that time - this little big fella has definitely become one of my most loved characters. Quite an achievement for a character who has a three word vocab. I love his sense of family, loyalty and friendship though - and his love of nature. Oh, and his big heroic act (which I won't spoil for anyone who hasn't seen this yet - although - what do you mean you haven't seen it yet? Go watch it. Now!) has me in tears every time. 

So if you're a Groot fan like me here's a little motif you can cross stitch to add some Groot love to the world. I haven't had a chance to stitch him up yet as I've been finishing a project, but I'm hoping to get him stitched up in the next couple of days.

Until then here's the pattern - nice and simple, although with a few half stitches thrown in to give him his shape. He just requires two different browns and a black, so hopefully not too taxing on your floss stash!

Motif Monday - Finnick Odair Bookmark

Any Hunger Games fans out there? Anyone else totally fall in love with Finnick's character as the story unfolded? I put this design together for a craft swap a while back and thought I would share it here today. It's possibly one of the more random designs in my collection - Finnick's trident, and then his name spelt out in the Maritime Flag alphabet (I liked the maritime-water-Finnick connection). I thought I'd share it here in case anyone else wants a slightly obscure Finnick bookmark to add to their collection - and also to put it out there that if you would like anything else spelt out in the Maritime alphabet let me know!

I'm about to start another read-through of the books, but think I might make up this bookmark first. I still find myself enjoying reading actual books more than my Kindle - maybe because I've always loved bookmarks?!

Here's the pattern - no particular floss colour requirements - you'll just need a black, white, yellow, blue and red - nice and simple!

Free Cross-Stich Pattern Mini Mr Distinguished

I have another mini cross stitch design for you today - it's the perfect size for a clear acrylic keyring. Let me introduce you to the mini Mr Distinguished...

This is the last of the mini designs for now - look out for some more Avengers coming soon!

I think I'm going to turn mini Mr Distinguished into some keyrings for Christmas stocking fillers (I'm thinking about Christmas already...what is actually wrong with me?!).

Motif Monday - The Mini Yeti

I have a little stash of free cross stitch patterns all stored up and ready to share - but have been putting it off because I haven't had a chance to stitch them yet.

I've decided that approach isn't very productive, so I'm going to start posting them anyway - please just excuse the fact that some of them won't have a 'finished item' photo to go with them!

This week's design is a tiny cute yeti - perfect for putting into a key fob or for filling any tiny spaces that are crying out for a miniature mythical creature...

I haven't put a key for this chart - it's so simple that you'll be good to go with an ice blue, a black and a white (optional depending on whether you're using white fabric).

Motif Monday -- Star Wars Jawa

In honour of it being May 4th yesterday, the free motif for this week is a cross stitch Jawa, from Star Wars. I've always had a soft spot for these little guys - although really not sure why as they're kind of nasty!

This little guy does involve some half stitches, but only uses four colours, so is still a nice simple design for an evening. Here's a close-up of how he looks...

#BEDM - 5 Fave Posts

The prompt today for Blog Every Day in May is for my 5 fav posts, which has led to an interesting read through some old posts...and has been kind of helpful in inspiring me to move forward. I've noticed that none of my favourites have made the cut because I'm proud of how well written/ informative they are, but instead made it because of the memories they inspire (note to self - work harder on well written and informative posts). So, without further ado my 5 fav posts so far are...

Motif Monday - Mr Distinguished - just because I love him - a simple design which beginner stitchers can do...but oh so simple.

Vintage Finds - Piggy Bank - chosen because I was (and still am) so happy with this find, and need to encourage myself to post more of my vintage finds on here.

Otters and Butterflies and Owls...oh my! - this was one of my favourite days out ever and so has to feature (plus...look at that little otter face...adorable much)!

Adventure Time Swap - because these two guys were one of the most awesome things I've received in the post...ever.

Motif Monday - Loki - chosen because I was so happy to have a new pattern to post and how it motivated me to get back to blogging...and because it's Loki and *cough* Tom Hiddleston.

Now one thing I can't help but notice is that none of my favourites have made the cut because I'm proud of how well written/ helpful/ informative they are, but instead made it because of the memories they inspire - which

Motif Monday - Loki

Hello stitch fans!

I'm happy to be able to share a new mini cross stich design with you - this time for Loki - the Marvel Supervillian we all love to...well...love. He's in his Avengers garb and although the picture doesn't highlight it very well, his helmet, staff and accents are stitched in gold thread - because, you now, he's kinda fancy.

Turns out gold thread is a pain in the derrier to stitch with but the end result looks fab - however, it could easily be substituted with yellow thread.

Happy stitching - my better half was the creative genius behind Loki's design - he's been inspired by pixel art, so is mega easy to stitch but the finished product is oh so cute! Stitch n Tell and a Motif Monday Teaser

I was hoping to have a new cross-stitch design ready for you today, but instead I've been doing a bit of stitching to make sure that the designs work in reality, and working with my boyfriend who has quite the talent for pixel art, which happens to transfer very well to cross stitch. This little guy is the end result of today's collaboration...does he look familiar?

That's right, it's Loki himself - burdened with glorious purpose and all that. It doesn't show too well in the photo, but the gold parts are stitched in a metallic thread...which looks lovely now it's finished, But almost got thrown across the lounge a couple of times as it is so frustrating to use!

From next Monday I'll have some weekly little motifs for you....and you probably don't have to be a genius to work out who you'll be seeing first! Your vey own cross stich Loki could soon be yours (and a few other Marvel characters to keep him company).

If there are any characters from film or TV who you'd love to see in miniature cross stitch form let me know and I'll see what we can do.

Motif Monday...the 11th Doctor

I'm back! Phew!

And even better...I'm back with a free cross stitch pattern for the Whovians amongst you. Our beloved Doctor was back on Saturday...complete with his new assistant Clara and a rather spiffy new outfit. To celebrate his return you can now stitch him on pretty much anything you desire (a Doctor Who tea towel?...yes please).

The important question is...which outfit do you prefer?

Motif Monday Round-Up

Motif Monday

I haven't had a chance to stitch today's motif yet (boo!), but it's a nice simple one, inspired by the look of disapproval meme - memes are stitching gold, more of these to come hopefully!

Here's the chart - I'll upload it as a Google doc as well, as soon as possible. I'm looking forward to stitching it (probably at the weekend). I'd quite like to hang it by my desk at work as I have a feeling I make this face several times a day!

Motif Monday - Mr Distinguished

Have you been looking at your walls recently and thinking they just need to be a bit more...distinguished? Well never fear, today's free cross stitch design is here to add that extra class to your stitching.

You can download the chart via google docs using this link (or just print the pic below). It's a nice simple design, with only four split stitches for the eyes. The moustache part of the design can be used for other projects as well. I'm planning some moustache magnets using plastic canvas, as the moustache is just whole stitches.

Motif Monday - It's Chocolate Bunny Time!

Inspired by my bunny themed Sunday Best yesterday - here's a chocolate bunny for you to stitch.

I'm half way through stitching mine (with a plan to turn him into a brooch), so I'll hopefully be able to post some pics of the completed bunny tomorrow. I'd estimate that this motif takes 2 evenings to stitch so there's still some time before Easter! No particular colours needed - just choose two yummy chocolate shades (oh how I miss chocolate!).

Motif Monday - Mass Effect N7 Logo

For those Mass Effect fans currently playing their way through Mass Effect 3 (how will it all end?!) here's a little cross stitch motif of the N7 logo for your stitching enjoyment. It's a simple one, so no key needed :) I'd quite to stitch this onto some PJs.

On a side note...I've started watching Game of Thrones for the first time today...a new addiction in the making I fear!

Motif Monday - Keep Calm and Roll Out

For this week's free cross stitch design I've geeked out with a 'Keep Calm' design with a Transformers twist. Thinking of 'Keep Calm' designs is proving to be lots of fun...my favourite twist on it is still 'Now Panic and Freak Out' (a command I find it much easier to follow!)

Motif Monday - Doctor Who

This week's cross stitch motifs are for any crafty Doctor Who fans. They're themed around the 11th Doctor (who I adore...and considering how much I loved the 10th Doctor...that's saying a lot).

So this week I bring you some Daleks (yep, the newest 'big bum' models...love them)

A 'Silence' (these guys so creep me the hell out)

And a Stetson and a bow tie (because, ya know...they're cool)

Motif Monday - The Hunger Games Logo

One of the weekly features I'm planning for 2012 is to post cross stitch motifs/ charts which I've designed for you lovely people to use in your crafty project. A looong time ago I posted these True Blood Motifs and for this week I've chosen The Hunger Games for inspiration (my new addiction).

I've tried to do a simple take on the logo with the Mockingjay holding the arrow:

I've played around with the shading a bit to try and give it that metallic feel, and think it would look kind of awesome stitched using one strand of metallic thread with the yellow floss.

Motifs - The True Blood Selection

I love True Blood. I love the characters, actors, style, humour and even the theme tune. My first swap over at craftster.org was a True Blood swap. As part of the swap I put together a True Blood themed cross stitch sampler for my partner, and thought I'd post a couple of the motifs I put together for it to help spread the True Blood stitching love.

Click on the link below and you should (hopefully) be able to download a pdf containing the chart for the vampire mouth shown here as well as the chart for a vial of "V". I've done the charts in colour, not as black and white symbols. I think believe people should use whatever colours they like the most for their stitching (I'm such a stitching hippy).

The designs are small and simple so you can vamp up your life in a stress free kinda way. Click on this link to download the designs. This is my first time trying something like this so if you have any problems downloading then let me know.

I'm also open to taking requests for motiffs from the world of TV and Film...so if there is anything you have a burning desire to stitch then let me know.
